Registration & License under Contract Labour Act 1970
The Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 is a legislation in India that regulates the employment of contract labour in certain establishments and provides for their working conditions. Here’s an overview of the registration and licensing process under this Act
The Contract Labour Act applies to establishments or contractors employing 20 or more contract labourers on any day of the preceding 12 months. It aims to regulate the employment conditions of contract labourers and ensure they receive benefits and protections similar to regular employees.
Once registered and licensed under the Contract Labour Act:
- The principal employer and contractors must comply with various provisions of the Act, including payment of wages, working hours, health and safety measures, welfare amenities, and other benefits to contract labourers.
- They are required to maintain registers and records as prescribed by the Act and submit periodic returns to the Labour Department or the licensing officer.
Registration and licensing ensure that establishments and contractors operate legally under the provisions of the Contract Labour Act. They provide a framework for safeguarding the rights, welfare, and safety of contract labourers. Registration and licensing help in regulating the employment practices involving contract labour, ensuring fair treatment and preventing exploitation.
