Mumbai, December 5, 2025: The Maharashtra Government has officially released the public holiday calendar for the year 2026, declaring 24 public holidays for all state government offices under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The notification was issued by the General Administration Department (GAD).
In addition to the standard list, the state has also announced one additional holiday applicable to government offices, municipal bodies and local self-governments.
Complete List of Public Holidays for 2026
The notified holidays include major national days, religious festivals and regionally significant occasions such as:
- Republic Day – 26 January
- Mahashivratri – 15 February
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti – 19 February
- Holi (Second Day) – 3 March
- Gudhi Padwa – 19 March
- Ramzan Eid (Eid-Ul-Fitr) – 21 March
- Ram Navami – 26 March
- Mahavir Jayanti – 31 March
- Good Friday – 3 April
- Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti – 14 April

Additional Holiday Announced
Along with the 24 public holidays, the state has declared one extra holiday for government departments and local bodies:
- Bhaubeej – 11 November 2026 (Wednesday)
This additional holiday applies to all state government offices, public sector undertakings, municipal corporations, zilla parishads, nagar panchayats and gram panchayats.
Bank-Specific Holiday
Banks in Maharashtra will receive one exclusive holiday for annual account closing:
- 1 April 2026 – Year-end bank closing day
(This holiday does not apply to government offices.)
Circular Widely Circulated Across Departments
The General Administration Department has circulated the notification to:
- Governor’s Office
- All Ministers and Legislative Offices
- All Departmental Secretaries
- District Collectors
- Municipal Commissioners
- Zilla Parishads and Panchayat bodies
- High Court and Government of India offices
The department has also instructed the Directorate of Information & Public Relations to ensure wide public awareness through press notes and broadcast channels.
