New Delhi:
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has proposed increasing the EPF wage ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month.
Once implemented:
- More employees will be covered
- Contributions will increase
- Pension and retirement savings will improve
Employees earning up to ₹25,000 (Basic + DA) will be mandatorily covered under EPF.
This proposed revision reflects the changing salary structures and rising cost of living in India. The current EPF wage ceiling of ₹15,000 was fixed several years ago and no longer reflects the realities of today’s labour market, where even entry-level and skilled workers often earn more. By raising the limit to ₹25,000, the government aims to bring a much larger portion of the organized and semi-organized workforce into the social security system, ensuring they build meaningful retirement savings and enjoy better financial protection in the long term.
