New Delhi, October 7, 2025: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has directed all establishments covered under the EPF & MP Act, 1952 to prominently display key details from Form 5A either at the entrance of the premises or on the establishment’s website and mobile application. The directive has been issued under the powers of the Central Government and the Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC).
The move is aimed at improving transparency for workers and enforcement agencies regarding the ownership and coverage status of EPF-registered establishments.
What Establishments Must Display
As per the order, every covered establishment must display an “extract” of Form 5A containing the following minimum details:
- EPF Code
- Registered Name of the establishment
- Date of EPF Coverage
- Number of branches and primary branch address
- Concerned EPFO Regional Office
These particulars must be placed in a clearly visible manner at the entrance or hosted prominently on the organisation’s digital platforms.
Legal Basis and Compliance Timeline
The direction follows instructions issued by the Central Government under paragraph 78(1) of the Employees’ Provident Funds Scheme, 1952, empowering EPFO to take steps for proper implementation of the Scheme. Acting on this, the CPFC has invoked paragraph 78(3) to formally order compulsory display of Form 5A extract.
Employers have been given 15 days from the date of the order to comply with the new requirement.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
EPFO has cautioned that failure to comply with the directive may invite legal action under the EPF & MP Act, 1952 and the schemes framed thereunder. Regional and district offices have been instructed to ensure that establishments in their jurisdiction implement the instructions in full.
Enhanced Transparency for Workers
By mandating public display of core EPF registration details, the organisation aims to:
- Help workers easily verify whether their employer is covered under EPF
- Facilitate quicker identification of the appropriate EPFO office
- Strengthen accountability of employers towards statutory social security obligations
The circular forms part of EPFO’s wider compliance and advocacy initiatives to improve awareness and protection for employees across the country.
